So this week, we had the option to come up with our own art activity. I took this opportunity to have an excuse to go to the beach and build a sand castle! Also it is spring break and it has been pretty hot lately so a visit to the beach was needed. I took my siblings and girlfriend with me and we all built a nice little castle. I honestly did not expect it to turn out the way it did. This castle by far is the best castle I have ever built. It was a fun experience for all of us! Continue reading

Week 10: Classmate Interview – Zach Kim
Zach’s full name is actually Zachary! He is from Fullerton and commutes to CSULB. He did apply to CSUF and got in but picked CSULB because he’s currently majoring in film. I say currently because he is still kind of iffy on his career choice. He is not 100% sure he wants to do film but chose it because he considers himself kind of an artistic person and enjoys film. His second choice would be an actuary because his mom recommended it. Before this interview I did not know what an actuary was but I guess I learn something new everyday.
Week 9: Activity – Adopt a Building
There are three separate activities in this week’s activity. The first part is to draw a cognitive map of the campus. The second is the adopt a building on campus. Last but not least is to redesign the campus. So the picture above is my cognitive map of the campus. It mostly shows the buildings that I have classes in and the path I take on a daily basis. I start by walking from the parking lot near the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (Gym) to my first class of the day in the VEC. Then afterwards I go to my Lab lecture in the ECS across the bridge.
Week 9: Classmate Interview – Hung Trinh
On Thursday, I found another person that lives close to me. Hung Trinh lives in Westminster, CA. Hung went to Westminster High School and is now a second year at CSULB studying Health Care. He came in undeclared and thought he wanted to do Economics, but after a few classes he realized that Economics wasn’t for him. He enjoys activities such as basketball, swimming, and fishing. Continue reading
Week 9: Artist Interview – Sheila Ann Rodriguez
Uprooted
This Thursday I had opportunity to visit Sheila Ann Rodriguez’s gallery, Uprooted. Unfortunately I did not see Rodriguez at her gallery so I was unable to interview her. Instead, this blog will be based off her Artist Statement and what my interpretation of her work is. Rodriguez’s work is based on the idea that humans need a deep relationship with places so that there’s importance in human existence. However, modern times have kind of washed away the need for a relationship to a home. Continue reading
Week 8: Activity – Remix Culture
This week’s activity was remix culture. Basically we could remix anything we wanted, images, music, words, plays, etc. What I did was a little mix on Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.” Basically I went through the lyrics and tried to replace as many of the words as I can with emojis. See if you are able to match up the original lyrics with the emojis!
Week 8: Artist Interview – Laura Scattergood
Laura’s gallery was definitely different than all the other galleries I’ve visited. I did not notice it at first but as I got deeper in, I noticed that there were guns and ammunition hidden in the gallery. She brought out the problems that have been recently occurring. Lately in the media, there have been stories about people getting into violence with others. These series of violence really disturbed her. She thinks the future will be revolving around individuals whereas before society was a group of people.
Week 8: Classmate Interview – Joseph Awadallah
Joseph is a really chill guy. He seems humble and the type of person to keep to himself. He is Palestinian but born and raised in the States. Joseph lives in Cypress and commutes to school. He is a first year and currently undeclared. He is still trying to find what he truly wants to do and doesn’t just want to pick a career path and regret it later. Joseph enjoys outdoors sports, more specifically, soccer.
Week 7: Classmate Interview – Julian Pineda
This week I met Julian. He is a really awesome guy. Julian is originally from Lake Elsinore in Riverside County but moved to Garden Grove last Summer. He is a first year studying Criminal Justice and plans to work for the FBI. He is very protective and enjoys investigating. He has two older brothers and one younger brother. One graduated from Long Beach and the other goes to Fullerton.
Week 7: Artist Interview – Clare Samani
Before I visited the Paradox gallery, I had a different image in my head for silk screen printing and print making in general. Some of the prints were really good. I think most of the prints in the gallery were either silk screen, etching, or relief. Clare did mention that silk screen is the most common, but her favorites are either relief or etching. There are several other types of printmaking but we only went over a few.
